The Town of Long Island is located on Long Island in Casco Bay. Long Island is one of 15 Maine islands that have year-round communities and was established in 1993 after seceding from the City of Portland.

Long Island voters approved the town's FY2025-26 $1.6m budget at Saturday's annual Town Meeting. Voters also elected Mike Hedge to replace Joe Donovan for a three-year select board term beginning July 1. Leah Doughty was reelected to a three-year term on the School Board.

ROADS POSTED

Effective Monday, March 10, 2025 vehicles or combinations of vehicles registered with a gross weight of 23,000 pounds or more are prohibited from using any of the gravel roads on the island. This is in effect until further notice and is intended to protect our roads from damage during the spring thaw months.

Notable exemptions from the prohibition include vehicles operating under the authority of the town, vehicles delivering home heating fuel and vehicles transporting well-drilling equipment for a property where the well is no longer supplying sufficient water.
