Cumberland County has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc for its “CodeRED” high speed telephone emergency notification service. In the event of a natural disaster or manmade emergency, the CodeRED system gives the Town and County the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notifications/information messages to targeted areas or the entire region at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.

Long Island Emergency Shelter
The town’s emergency shelter is located in the basement of the Long Island Learning Center, at the corner of Fern and Gorham avenues. It is handicapped accessible, featuring an outside ramp and an inside elevator. The facility has a generator, bedding and a Wellness Center with an exam room and a telehealth room, medical appliances such as crutches and walkers, and two handicapped accessible bathrooms. The building also houses the Long Island Community Library, the Dodwell Art Gallery, the Long Island School, and the Multi-Purpose Room which has a small kitchen.
