{"id":880,"date":"2013-09-27T17:59:08","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T21:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/?page_id=880"},"modified":"2025-07-10T09:21:48","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T13:21:48","slug":"burn-permits","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/?page_id=880","title":{"rendered":"Burn Permits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">BURN PERMITS<br \/>\n<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Town Fire Wardens: BURN PERMITS<\/span><\/p>\n<p>ALL OPEN FIRES (except cooking grills) REQUIRE A FIRE PERMIT.<br \/>\nCOST: $ 0<br \/>\nTO OBTAIN A BURNING PERMIT PLEASE CONTACT THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE:<\/p>\n<div>Chief Will Tierney<\/div>\n<div>1-207-317-1577<\/div>\n<div>Deputy Chief Sam Whitener<\/div>\n<div>1-207-838-6376<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Firefighter Justin Papkee<\/div>\n<div>1-781-956-0879<\/div>\n<p>Dispatch Direct 893-2810<br \/>\nThis number may be used if<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>\u00a0unable\u00a0<\/b><\/span>to locate a town warden to issue a permit the Dispatcher will contact someone by radio.<\/p>\n<p>Permits are not issued before 8:00 am or after 8:00pm all permits are called in to dispatch over the radio<\/p>\n<p>Permits for Fowlers Beach require permission from the Long Island Civic Association Board of Directors.<big><big><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>\nBEACH FIRE PERMITS<br \/>\nBeach Fire permits are issued to persons 18 years or older.<br \/>\nAll trash must be removed from the beach and placed in trash receptical.<br \/>\nFires must be extinguished with water and not covered with sand and buried<br \/>\nFires should be made below high tide mark if possible to ensure that the tide will extinguish at high tide (EXTINGUISHING WITH THE 5 GALLON BUCKET IS STILL REQUIRED)<br \/>\nThe person signing the permit is responsible for following all state and local laws including littering and leaving a fire unattended<br \/>\nA 5 gallon Bucket is required for all beach fires for relinquishment<\/p>\n<p>FIRE PERMITS ARE ISSUED ACCORDING TO THE FIRE CLASS DAY SET BY THE MAINE FOREST SERVICE AND AVAILABLE MANPOWER FOR SUPPRESSION AND IT IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE TOWN WARDEN ISSUING THE PERMIT.<\/p>\n<p>PLEASE RESPECT THE PRIVACY OF THE TOWN WARDENS: DO NOT WALK INTO THEIR HOMES\u00a0 PLEASE\u00a0 KNOCK ON THE DOOR OR CALL AHEAD PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. PERMIT CUT OFF TIME IS 8:00pm<\/p>\n<p>IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT BURNING BRUSH ETC. BE DONE AT TIMES THAT IT WILL NOT BE OFFENSIVE TO NEIGHBORS.<br \/>\nBurning of plastics, pressure treated wood, hazardous waste items, lead painted wood are prohibited.
