TRASH<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Please keep in mind that all Island solid waste has to be hauled to the mainland, a labor intensive and costly process.\u00a0 We encourage day-trippers to take their trash home with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Household trash and broken down cardboard are picked up Monday mornings, unless it is a holiday.\u00a0 If so trash pickup will be on the following Tuesday.\u00a0 Household trash must be in plastic bags, that are not too heavy\u00a0 and placed in covered and secured containers.\u00a0 Any trash strewn about, or not in closed bags, will not be picked up.\u00a0 Place containers curbside by 8AM.<\/span><\/p>\n

In public areas, the blue containers are for bottles and cans, and the trash containers are not for household trash.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a fee to dispose of large waste items at the Transfer Station.\u00a0 Payment at time of disposal will be required using a punch pass system.\u00a0 Punch cards can be purchased from the Transfer Station attendant or at Town Hall during regular business hours in increments of $10, $20, $50 or $100.\u00a0 Hauling items is the responsibility of each resident.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Transfer station is located on Fowler Road across from the Ivy Hall Gift Shop.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

NOTICE:<\/strong> The Transfer Station is closed on the holidays.\u00a0 Weather or other emergency conditions (Fire\/Rescue Calls) may delay the opening of the Transfer Station. During winter storms the Transfer Station may be closed due to storm conditions WCSH channel 6 will have cancellations posted on “Storm Center 6”.<\/span><\/p>\n

SOLID WASTE<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While there is no charge for household trash we do charge for solid waste.\u00a0 Town issued punch cards, available at town hall and transfer station, are required for payment of solid waste disposal fees. More information about punch cards is available on the link below:<\/span><\/div>\n

The following items are considered recyclable and may be disposed of free of charge. If you have a questions regarding whether or not an item is recyclable ask the attendant.<\/span><\/div>\n

ZERO SORT CONTAINER ITEMS<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

NOTE: Do not place plastic film or plastic bags in the zero sort container.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

PAPER:<\/strong> mail,catalogs,paperback books, paper bags, newspaper,phone books, office paper,file folders,junk mail,magazines,envelopes and hard cover books with no covers<\/span><\/p>\n

ALUMINUM<\/strong>: beverage containers(non deposit),CLEAN foil,pie plates,cooking trays etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

METAL\/TIN<\/strong>: aerosol cans (not paint or Hazardous waste), CLEAN food cans,<\/span><\/p>\n

GLASS:<\/strong>\u00a0beverage containers(non deposit),CLEAN food jars,any color<\/span><\/p>\n

PLASTICS<\/strong>: numbers 1-7, milk jugs,shampoo bottles,bleach,sour cream,cottage cheese, clean food containers, limited hard plastics approved by the attendant.<\/span><\/p>\n

CARDBOARD CONTAINER (COMPACTOR) ITEMS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

All types of cardboard, paper (flat) board boxes, egg cartons, paper towel and toilet paper rolls.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

RETURNABLE (DEPOSIT) BOTTLES AND CANS<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Starting Friday May 30th 2025 the Transfer Station will no longer accept returnable bottles and cans.<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You are now responsible for all returnable bottles and cans that you previously recycled at the Transfer Station. If you wish to support the Wellness Center or the fire Department through the <\/span><\/span><\/span>CLYNK to Give<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span> program, CLYNK bags are available to do so at Town Hall, the Transfer Station and the Boathouse. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Please note that you are responsible for returning your CLYNK bags to CLYNK. For your convenience you can put your CLYNK bag(s) in the cage(s) on the dock provided by the Bay Lines every Monday and they will return them to CLYNK for you.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
