Information about the proposed
\n<\/strong>transfer station improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Town is proposing an additional $380,000 loan to support the Transfer Station Improvements project, building upon previously approved funding. This investment is necessary to ensure the facility can continue to meet the island\u2019s waste management needs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Planned upgrades designed in partnership with Gorrill Palmer Engineering Company include improved site infrastructure, safer traffic flow, enhanced waste handling and storage systems, and strengthened environmental protections. These improvements are critical to maintaining an essential public service and ensuring the facility can serve the community effectively.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here is the summary of changes that took place at the May 4 Town Meeting:<\/p>\n

Several fees change effective July 1st:<\/div>\n
Transfer Station<\/a>,\u00a0Municipal<\/a>, and Town BYOB<\/a>\u00a0are increasing from $20 to $100.\u00a0 \u00a0Mooring Permits<\/a> issued beginning July 1 increase in cost from $30 to $60 for a resident or taxpayer and from $60 to $250 for a non resident.<\/div>\n

Chapter 14<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0Land Use Ordinance\u00a0had several changes including language\u00a0for accessory dwelling units (ADU) and a new floodplain management ordinance.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Chapter 17<\/a> –\u00a0 Deputy Sheriff and Constable had several amendments regarding golf cart use, fines and fees.\u00a0 This includes parking permits.<\/i><\/span> Any vehicle registered on the island\u00a0 beginning July 1st must pay an additional $25 if the owner wants a parking permit.<\/div>\n

Registration\u00a0reminders have been sent to everyone\u00a0for May and June, July renewals arrived in the office today. July reminders will be sent out individually this week.<\/div>\n

In addition,\u00a0 ATV and UTV registrations all expire June 30th and are subject to the parking permit fee as well if issued beginning July 1st.\u00a0 All Maine registrations are $75 and out of state are $120.<\/div>\n
