When you search by lot number you should append <strong>-0 <\/strong>to the numbers that appears on the parcel map, i.e. search for <strong>646-0<\/strong> to find the bill for lot <strong>646<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Maine Tax Relief Programs<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Maine Revenue Service administers several programs that offer tax-relief to permanent residents:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/revenue\/taxes\/tax-relief-credits-programs\/property-tax-relief-programs\/property-tax-exemptions\">Maine Property Tax Relief Programs<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Homestead Exemption Program<\/strong> provides a reduction of up to $25,000 in the value of your home for property tax purposes. To qualify, you must be a permanent resident of Maine, the home must be your permanent residence, you must have owned a home in Maine for the 12 months prior to applying and an application must be filed on or before April 1 with the municipality where the property is located. The exemption applies to any residential property that is assessed as real property. For instance, a mobile home located on a rented lot may qualify for the exemption.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/revenue\/faq\/homestead-exemption-program\">Homestead Exemption Program FAQ<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/revenue\/sites\/maine.gov.revenue\/files\/inline-files\/homesteadapp2022.pdf\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a> is the application for a Homestead Exemption. Application is also available in Town Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens <\/strong>was repealed by our State legislature in July of 2023. Here&#8217;s a link to information for Long Island residents regarding the current state of this program:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/LD-290-Property-Tax-Stabilization-for-Seniors-Repealed-by-State-Legislature.docx.pdf\">LD 290 Property Tax Stabilization for Seniors Repealed by State Legislature<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Property Tax Abatements<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Abatements must be filed within the State mandated 185 days of the Municipal Tax Commitment date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tax Collector&#8217;s Notice, Lien, Claim and Demand (30 Day Lien Notice) Payment Policy (Effective July 1, 2011)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tax Collector has a policy to accept\u00a0<strong>ONLY<\/strong>\u00a0bank checks, certified checks, money orders or cash during the \u201c30 Day Period\u201d.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">PERSONAL CHECKS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE<\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">To avoid Lien on property, payment needs to be made to the Tax Collector by the 30th day.<\/span><strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tax Collector &#8211; Town of Long Island<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Town of Long Island collects property taxes twice a year on September 15th and March 15th.
