{"id":7345,"date":"2024-11-03T16:46:46","date_gmt":"2024-11-03T21:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/?page_id=7345"},"modified":"2025-01-31T19:08:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-01T00:08:53","slug":"licp-implementation-committee","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/?page_id=7345","title":{"rendered":"LICP Implementation Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Long Island Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee (LICP IC)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Purpose Statement<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose of the committee is to represent the community\u2019s interests in advocating for and facilitating the implementation of the 2022 Town of Long Island Comprehensive Plan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The committee will work to ensure the outcomes reflect the vision and values crafted by the community. This will be accomplished by working across the community to recruit and activate sponsors to move forward with short, medium, and long-term recommendations from the Comprehensive Plan and reporting progress to the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Select Board will be accountable for enabling the committee to work across the town\u2019s boards, committees, and citizens to carry forward the recommendations from the 2022 Comprehensive plan making best use of expertise on the island and everywhere.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Links to our work<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The comprehensive plan unanimously approved by voters at the May 2022 town meeting serves as a guide for the town though 2035.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/134.209.66.176\/Website\/2022_LI_Comprehensive_Plan.pdf\">2022 Long Island Comprehensive Plan<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Matrix-Final-Merged-1.pdf\">2022 Long Island Comprehensive Plan Implementation Matrix<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/?page_id=4909\">2021-2022 Comprehensive Plan Community Engagement<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Committee Members<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current: Janice Avignon, Cyrus Hagge, Linda Ferguson-McCann, Beth Marchak, Jane Oldfield-Spearman, Becky Steele<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Past: Melanie Nash (Island Institute Fellow), Rose Barter, Karen Boss, Emma Morgan (Americorps Fellow)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Management system<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The committee meets monthly and is working with other groups, sub-committees with other citizens on actions; reports out to Select Board and community with additional communications pushed out through town and community channels as needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Projects\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LICP IC is charged with driving actions forward by partnering with town organizations, committees and citizens.\u00a0 The top priorities reflect community engagement during the comprehensive plan process and include: water supply preservation, natural resource preservation, climate resilience, town infrastructure, town management, and wellness\/recreation. \u00a0 A number of projects have been completed in 2022-2023 and are currently underway in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jan. 31, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/unnamed-6.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7486\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/unnamed-6.jpg?resize=300%2C281&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/unnamed-6.jpg?resize=300%2C281&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townoflongisland.us\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/unnamed-6.jpg?w=302&amp;ssl=1 302w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <\/b><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Bryan Wilcenski, Long Island&#8217;s 2025 AmeriCorps<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><em><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> Resilience Fellow<\/span><\/em><\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><b>Long Island welcomes Bryan Wilcenski as the 2025 AmeriCorps Fellow<\/p>\n<p><\/b><\/div>\n<div>Long Island applied for and was accepted into the 2025 Resilience Corps Program,\u00a0a Fellowship program managed by Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG), in partnership with AmeriCorps and the Environmental Protection Agency. The program is dedicated to building capacity at the municipal and nonprofit level in climate, sustainability, environmental and community resilience, environmental justice, and coastal resilience planning.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We are thrilled to welcome Bryan Wilcenski as the 2025 Resilience Fellow for Long Island.\u00a0 Bryan has recently relocated to Portland from upstate New York.\u00a0 His service term on Long Island will run through December 2025.\u00a0 He will split his time working remotely from Portland and from Town Hall (and elsewhere) on Long Island.\u00a0 Bryan will be focusing primarily on completion of the Water Sustainability Study started last year, working with hydrogeologist Carol White from Chebeague, Christian Lamontagne and the Groundwater Quality Committee; and ongoing projects on Mariner&#8217;s Wharf and Ponce&#8217;s Wharf working with Brian Dudley and the Working Waterfront Committee.\u00a0 He will also join the Long Island Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee where he will contribute to various resilience projects underway around the island.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Bryan grew up just south of the Adirondack Park in upstate New York and his interest in natural resource conservation developed as he volunteered and recreated throughout New York\u2019s northern forests. He received a BS from Cornell University with a concentration on Natural Resource Management and Policy. Water resources\u2014as an avenue to ecological and economic resilience\u2014were a throughline across his undergraduate positions in ESG consulting and regenerative agriculture.
