The year round home at 1005 Island Ave. owned by Jennifer Decanto and occupied by Jane and Joel Watters is going to be auctioned off on Sept. 19, 2008. While difficult to put aside the issues Jane and Joel must be facing, someone is going to own a home at potentially a bargain price. If this is of any interest to you, you must move quickly. The most prudent thing is to get pre-qualified for a mortgage, if you are not already. Prior to the sale, you must make a $5000 deposit which will be applied to the purchase (or returned in not successful). You will sign a purchase and sale if you bid successfully and have 30 days to gain the completion of financing. The auction will be in Portland at 483 Congress St., Suite 300 and you must be present to bid. Further details and information can be had from Jonathan M. Flagg, Esq., Flagg Law, PLLC, 93 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH, 03801, telephone 603 766 6300. Mark **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. I feel it was and is very decent of Mark to take a few moments out of his day?to inform our community members who may not have known about this opportunity, basically to give them a heads up of another opportunity currently available?here at home.? Those involved with the property will have an equal opportunity to bid on the property, emotions of all?aside.? A number of Long Islanders saw it and alerted me. How much research would you like done on this information? Feel free to share any additional research you gain or positive ideas on this situation. The auction, however is in 3 weeks - should we hide this public notice a while longer from Long Islanders until all of the personal details are flushed out? I did not put out, nor did I know one personal detail about this. I was very surprised and saddened. Unfortunately, some community members who seem to know so much about the misfortunes of our neighbors feel that hiding it is better than trying to help. I am sure the housing committee and other island groups would help if given a chance or were asked. I take full responsibility for sending out this information and stand by it and am sorry you feel embarrassed or offended by our Housing Committee. When we are in danger of loosing a contributing year round family from the island I do not think we have to wait to be asked to help. If a phone call was made to see if there was anything the Year Round Housing Committees could do to help and the answer was no then you did everything you could. Once that had taken place notifying others of the opportunity to own property on the island was certainly appropriate unless the Watters requested otherwise. If you or someone else representing the committees did make that phone call to the Watters - good job. If we did not make the call let's do it next time.
