Providing innovative flexible financing and expert technical assistance to affordable housing and community groups throughout Maine since 1992.
Affordable Housing for Maine Island Communities
First modular comes ashore at Islesboro.
It was an exciting day earlier this winter when the first modular came ashore at Islesboro. Now construction is well underway and two new units of affordable housing will be occupied this summer.
The Genesis Fund's work to create affordable housing in Maine's year round island communities is also showing great progress. To date, six island affordable housing groups have received funding from MaineHousing, of those, two have begun construction. Two other groups have completed applications and submitted them to MaineHousing for funding.
The Genesis Fund's technical assistance program continues to help manage the review and construction of the projects once they are approved. In total this work is expected to result in the development of 16 units of affordable housing in 8 island communities - helping to sustain these year round communities for years to come.
Genesis Fund receives grant from Create Jobs for USA
The Genesis Fund received a capital grant from the Create Jobs for USA Fund, a collaboration between Starbucks and Opportunity Finance Network(OFN).
The Genesis Fund is one of the community development financial institutions (CDFIs) in the nation to be awarded a grant from the fund since the program began allocating awards in November of 2011. The Create Jobs for USA Fund pools donations from Starbucks customers, partners/employees, and concerned citizens into a nationwide fund, held and managed by OFN, for community business lending.
Donors who contribute $5 or more will receive a red, white, and blue wristband with the message "Indivisible." The wristbands are individually handmade in the U.S.A. and all component materials are manufactured by U.S. suppliers, so the effort is also helping support American manufacturing jobs.
