2010 Mike Yandell Award
Avesta Board Vice Chair Neal Allen presents Mike Yandell award to Bill Floyd, Executive Director and Liza Fleming-Ives Associate Director of the Genesis Fund.
Presented in recognition of the valuable financing the Genesis Fund provides for affordable housing and in recognition of the leadership role the organization has taken in statewide advocacy efforts for affordable housing.
"Historically, the Genesis Fund has lent over $15 million for affordable housing and community facility projects through out Maine - including 6 projects with Avesta. In each and every case, the Genesis Fund lived up to their reputation as nimble, fair, and responsive," said Deb Keller, Director of Development, Avesta Housing.
Additionally, Avesta honored the Genesis Fund's contribution to the success of Florence House, a supported housing facility for chronically homeless women in Portland.
Together, we can help some of Maine's most vulnerable citizens.

"This is such a great thing for all of us - affordable housing! I want to thank the Genesis Fund for making this happen for me and my neighbors." resident of an affordable housing project in rural Maine made possible by technical assistance and financing from the Genesis Fund.
These projects wouldn't be possible without your help. Donations to the Genesis Fund support our Technical Assistance program which provides professional expertise to local nonprofits, who are creating affordable housing and vital community facilities. Developing project plans, conducting feasibility studies, and grant writing are just a few of the activities technical assistance from the Genesis Fund provides. In these challenging economic times, this support is crucial to the success of these much needed projects.

Maine Affordable Housing Coalition honors Hannah Pingree
Recipient of second annual Elizabeth Mitchell award
Given annually to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to affordable housing in Maine, the Elizabeth Mitchell award was established in 2009 by the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition.
Hannah Pingree, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, was chosen as this year's recipient in recognition of her work for affordable housing for Maine's island communities. "This is a crucial period in history, whether islands are going to be able to continue. There is enormous change going on," Hannah Pingree said .
Since 2004, 20 units of affordable housing on Maine's year round islands have been created. Current plans have the potential to create twice as many units, sustaining island communities for many years to come.
