Maine's next Capacity Building Session on <b>Affordable Housing for
Regional Prosperity: By Choice Not Chance, September
19, <span> </span>from 3-5 pm at the Lee Community Hall in USM's
Wishcamper Center in Portland.</b> </div>
<div style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal" class="MsoNormal">People usually think that affordable housing means assisted and
subsidized housing for low-income households. But in truth, everyone in a
healthy region needs access to usable housing in a practical location at an
affordable price. Our region\u2019s economic health will depend on meeting these
housing needs for both the people now here and those we wish to attract for the
future. I think we can all agree we have not yet met that aim. And, changing
demographics as well as energy factors are now leading people to reassess their
true housing costs and needs, both here in Maine and across the nation. We need
to be prepared as well for the housing shifts this will create.</div>
<div style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal" class="MsoNormal">This session, like previous ones, will include insights from a panel of
experts and leaders on this topic and then a substantial room discussion. The
panel includes speakers from the municipal, private development and nonprofit
housing development communities. Attendees include both Partnership
steering committee members and members of the new Regional Housing Council,
among others. The session is open to anyone interested. The Sustain
Southern Maine initiative and the Regional Housing Council provide new
opportunities to share innovative approaches and opportunities to collaborate in
new ways.</div>
<div style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal" class="MsoNormal">Please save the date for this important discussion that crosses
boundaries to address our regional housing future. </div>
