Hi everyone,
=20
This is a reminder that the Coalition for Coastal Workforce Housing will be=20=
gathering a group of individuals and organizations together on Tuesday, Febr=
uary 27th, from 1-4 PM at the Hall of Flags in the State House in Augusta. =20=
We have invited legislators to visit with us to learn more about affordable=20=
housing needs along the coast and on Maine's islands. The following groups=20=
will be represented: Coalition for Coastal Workforce Housing, Coastal Enterp=
rises, Inc., Genesis Community Loan Fund, MaineHousing, Community Housing of=
Maine, Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast, and, Maine Peop=
le's Alliance. It will be important to show strong support by having as man=
y people attend to support affordable housing legislation and to help educat=
e the legislators about the affordable housing needs within your communities=
. There will also be a public hearing on Friday, March 2nd, to discuss seve=
ral bills related to affordable housing. This Hall of Flags event is well-t=
imed with these hearings. We will be setting up information tables, and wil=
l put together drinks and snacks for the event. Please let me know if you a=
re planning to attend this event.
=20
We are also tracking legislation related to affordable housing efforts. Han=
nah Pingree submitted 3 bills on our behalf. On March 2nd, there will be a=20=
public hearing in room 127 of the State House at 10 AM. The following bills=
will be discussed:
=20
LD 263: An Act to Reduce the Property Tax Burden (Sponsor: Rep. RAND of Port=
land)
LD 761: An Act to Enable Municipalities to Establish Municipal Land Banks Fu=
nded by a Local Option Real Estate Transfer Taxes (Sponsor: Rep. RECTOR of T=
homaston)
LD 762: An Act to Enhance a Community's Capacity to Support Affordable Housi=
ng (Sponsor: Rep. Pingree of North Haven)
LD 174: An Act to Increase the County Share of the Real Estate Transfer Tax=20=
(Sponsor: Rep. Raye of Washington)
=20
Hannah said it's very important to attend these hearings to show your suppor=
t for the bills, and to provide testimony to the need for affordable housing=
. Please let me know if someone from your community can attend these hearin=
gs. We will then work with you to prepare testimony and, hopefully, have gr=
eat representation from the islands. Please pass this information along to=20=
anyone in your community who may be interested in attending these hearings.

=20
I hope you will be able to attend both of these events. Also, please let me=
know if there are other people within your communities who should be added=20=
to my affordable housing mailing list.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!
